The Kingdom’s Constitution is being stripped of its sanctity and freedom is under siege. The Law on Association and Non-Government Organization, Internet Law and Trade Union Law has all been passed by Parliament to enforce stricter controls on civil society and stall the democratic process. Through his full control of the judiciary, Prime Minister Hun Sen consequently used these laws to suppress dissent and greatly limiting speech and expression deemed unfavorable to the ruling party. Used to carry out these oppressive laws are government security apparatus such as the Anti-Corruption Unit led by former Hun Sen advisor, Om Yentieng and the Counter Terror Agency under the command of Lieutenant General Hun Manet. The appalling tactic is nothing short of political harassment and intimidation towards reformers and human rights activists.
