The Cambodia America Alliance will hold a rally in front of the U.S. Capitol Building on Friday, June 10th, 2016. We’re rallying for Congress to pass a resolution demanding U.S. Department of State impose diplomatic and economic sanctions on Hun Sen’s government until political prisoners, human rights defenders, activists are freed; and to pass a resolution establishing a Cambodia Contact Group to ensure free and fair election and peaceful power transfer in Cambodia.
We urge Cambodian communities worldwide to hold peaceful rallies at your City Halls, State Capitol or Cambodian Consulate Offices on June 10th to remind the world Cambodia is not a free country. Hun Sen's dictatorship is a threat to peace and stability in Cambodia as well as democracy, freedom, and justice.

My fellow Americans and Khmer Patriots,
On February 15th, 2016, in this free country, we will have the opportunity of a lifetime to confront a dictator who has oppressed the Khmer people in our Kingdom for far too long. The world is changing at a rapid pace while Prime Minister Hun Sen and his tyrannical regime have done very little to progress society and move the Kingdom forward. The absolute tragedy in this is our birth country falling behind on democratic reforms and human rights. Equally disturbing are the ineffective actions taken by others whom the Khmer people trusted with support and resources to rescue the nation.
As Khmer-Americans living in a free nation, we have a responsibility to the 800,000 who’ve lost their homes since 2002 and countless more who will be forced into homelessness. We have an obligation to the labor rights victims who were shot and killed in 2014; with justice still yet to be found. We’re compelled to honor the sacrifices of heroes like Chea Vichea and Chhuth Vuthy who were murdered in cold blood. We have a duty to the two dozen rights activists, one an American citizen, who are still sitting in prison on politically charged and unfounded crimes. We have a care for the two lawmakers, Nhay Chamroeun and Kong Saphea, who were viciously beaten by the Prime Minister’s supporters for being in the opposition party. These policies of intimidation, harassment and attacks have no place in a civil society, let alone our Kingdom.
The Prime Minister has casted an illusion where a multiparty system is fine as long as his party remains in power. He has disrespected human rights, disavowed universal freedoms and disowned good governance. His ruling party recently passed the Law on Association and Non-Government Organizations which has made it very hard and difficult for civil societies to conduct work based off democratic principles. In the most recent report from Freedom House, Cambodia was classified as a “not free’ country and scored very low with civil liberties and political rights, bringing it closer to autocracy and further away from democracy. On January 26, he again openly threatened Cambodian-Americans with a counter protest where we witnessed his supporters attacking lawmakers and terrorizing family members of the opposition.
The Cambodia-America Alliance will not be deterred by Prime Minister Hun Sen and his threats as Khmers should no longer tolerate these types of intimidation. We are committed to challenging his dictatorial rule by virtue of our belief in the Kingdom and her people deserving so much better. They are owed a semblance of peace and opportunity robbed from them during decades of corruption and incompetent governance. This dictator will be at our door steps and he must be reminded that this is America-land of the free and home of the brave. Just as we stood against Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein, and Slobodan Milosevic; we too will stand against Hun Sen. CAA welcomes anyone who values liberty, freedom and democracy to stand beside us as this is duty owed to the Kingdom and those fighting for real democratic reforms. The Khmer people will be masters of their own destiny.
“I've always tried to explain democracy is not perfect. But it gives you a chance to shape your own destiny.”
-Aung San Suu Kyi

Cambodian-Americans Protesting Hun Sen’s Visit to the United Nations
Bronx, New York
Hun Sen Must Go !
Prime Minister Hun Sen will make an official visit to the United Nations in attendance of the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 70) on September 25th to 26th, 2015. This is his administration’s twentieth-second visit since the signing of The Paris Peace Agreement; for he has brutally held on to power for over 30 years through corruption, intimidation and violence. Citizens of the free world have determined that enough is enough. Cambodia and her people deserve a real democratically elected leader to bring transparency, fresh ideas and new faces for stability and prosperity to all. To ensure our voices are heard loud and clear, free Cambodian Americans and the victims of Hun Sen’s regime will be rallying for real democracy and real rights:
Date: Saturday, September 26th, 2015
Time: 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM
Place: The United Nations Headquarters
New York City (1st Avenue & East 47th street)
760 United Nations Plaza, New York, NY 10017
Purpose: To demand justice for Cambodians victims:
“Hun Sen Must Go”
During his 35 years in power, Prime Minister Hun Sen has ruled Cambodia with an iron fist and committed numerous human rights violations comparable to Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gadaffi and Slobodan Milosevic. Under his authoritarian rule, widespread corruption has led to a failed judicial system, rigged elections, and large-scale illegal deforestation and mineral expropriation.
The number of innocent and poor villagers adversely affected by land-grabbing since 2000 is estimated at 830,000 people. This staggering figure is continually increasing by about 1000 people per week or 50,000 per year. At this rate, within three years, the number of people affected by illegal land seizures will reach 1 million. It is no surprise, that we’ve seen increasing social unrest throughout the country as ordinary people try to protect their homes.
A legal brief submitted on October 7th, 2014 to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court by international lawyer Richard Rogers, outlines the worst human rights abuses committed by the Prime Minister and Cambodia’s Ruling Elites. The legal brief points out that most of the violations are interconnected - whether the forcible evictions of poor families, the assassination of trade union leaders, or the persecution of opposition figures; these are all part of a much broader policy, which is implemented by Cambodian State actors for the benefit of the Ruling Elites.
Before the 2013 national election, Prime Minister Hun Sen warned of war if he lost the election. This type of threat and fear mongering has sadly become the norm in Cambodia. Their real objectives and true intentions are for self-enrichment of the Ruling Elites; primarily through land-grabbing and preservation of power at all costs. These terror tactics are mainly executed through violent suppression of dissidents.
It is time for world leaders to take meaningful action against kleptocratic dictators, such as the regime in Cambodia. We, citizens of the free world and victims of Hun Sen’s regime strongly and unequivocally urge the United Nations:
1. To convince the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court with initiating an investigation into the alleged crimes committed by Cambodia’s Ruling Elite.
2. To rightfully and obligatory take action under Article 5 of the Paris Peace Agreement (1991), which states that "In the event of serious violations of human rights in Cambodia, [the Parties] will call upon the competent organs of the United Nations to take such other steps as are appropriate for the prevention and suppression of such violations in accordance with the relevant international instruments.”
3. To monitor the 2018 national election to ensure it is free and fair.
4. To ensure the peaceful transfer of authority should the opposition party obtain majority of the votes in 2018.
